HONDURAS, THE BANANA REPUBLIC

We spent almost a week in Honduras, though essentially it was a transit country for us. Apart from the couple of days we had on Roatan Island, we were mostly travelling through the country or waiting for connections. Lots of staring out of bus windows at the ramshackle, chaotic towns, local characters and the never-ending, beautiful banana plantations.

We planned to spend longer in the Bay Islands, but weren't too impressed with the over-development, heavy traffic and ever-arrogant ex-pats. Roatan itself was gorgeous... it was just spoiled by the all too rapid and overwhelming growth of tourism (to which of course we were contributing!!). So, we made the most of the fantastic snorkelling and caught up on sleep before our next big trip up to Belize...
