BELIZE - Part One (photos posted previously, see below)

After a 3 hr wait in the midday sun for our exit stamps from Honduras, we finally boarded the boat to Dangriga in Belize. Really choppy, but great journey, especially when the route took us along the reef and through the Cayes - some were like tiny desert islands inhabited only by a single palm tree.

Once we had arrived on land we jumped on a bus to San Ignacio, a small town close to the Guatemala border. Stayed in an "interesting" hostel run by the self-titled Kenny G - a real character - who gave us the inside info on all the things to do in the area. So, the next morning, we took a Kenny-arranged canoe up the Mecal river with Matt, who we had met in the long queue at Honduras immigration. It was a real Deliverance experience, complete with mad dogs chasing us along the river banks and a worringly leaky vessel. However we would like to point out that, thankfully, no locals asked us to squeal like pigs!

It was a short but sweet visit - we were already looking forward to our return to Belize in a couple of days....
